The Winemaker - Matt Zadow

Matt Zadow grew up camping and skiing on the Murray River in South Australia’s Riverland. Matt’s family had sold grapes to Yalumba since 1962, sparking his interest in winemaking from a young age. However, the first 17 years of his career was spent in commercial electronic repair and sales, later moving to Adelaide as State Service Manager for Dick Smith Electronics and Mitsubishi Electric.

Matt completed a Bachelor of Agricultural Sciences (Oenology) degree from Adelaide University graduating as Dux in 2005, and was awarded the Gramp Hardy Smith Memorial Prize.

Matt spent the 2005 vintage at Brokenwood Wines in the Hunter Valley before moving to the Barossa to join the Yalumba winemaking team as nightshift red winemaker in 2006. In 2007 Matt was kept on as assistant winemaker under Yalumba winemakers Kevin Glastonbury and Peter Gambetta.

At the beginning of vintage 2011, Matt was offered the position of red winemaker at Oxford Landing Estates and has since led the team across eight successful vintages.

Matt is thrilled to be working with the South Australian warm climate vineyards he grew up in.
